Success Story

Dr. Raaj Ruparel is a General Surgery Resident at The Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ. As a Simulation and Surgical Education Fellow at The Mayo Clinic, he was featured in the video series Saving Lives with Gus, which uses social media to educate millennials on basic lifesaving procedures.

He and his colleagues were challenged by Dr. David Farley, co-director of the Simulation Medicine Fellowship, who was inspired to launch this initiative after an AED kit failed to save the life of a local high school athlete. Its goal is to save the life of at least one person a year. To that end, Dr. Ruparel created a prototype named “Gus,” and together they starred in the videos, which were released weekly by the Mayo Clinic News Network.
